“I can’t stop pissing!” shouted a bum in my dream,
“That’s a shame,” I sympathized,
as he pulled up his fly and stumbled into an alleyway.
I sat up in bed and contemplated his dire situation,
it was bound to happen,
his body was an ocean full of wine
so who’s to blame?
The clock continued ticking
and the bum reappeared in my dream,
I asked politely for a shot of wine
and he spat into my gaping mouth.
“That wasn’t a nice thing to do,” I scolded.
“So what?” he replied maliciously, “it’s your fault,
after all, it is your dream.”

Correspondence & Poem
Notes
- This was one of two poems accepted by “Feh! A Journal of Odious Poetry” in 1991. The second poem was “On the Bus”. The correspondence is included above.
- It was performed by the Hated Uncles at Bannisters on May 7, 1988. The final show for lineup Mark I. It was a unique performance! Our drummer quit the previous week, so the band wrote new music (except for “Name on a Gravestone”), as I read recent poems while sound effects played in the background. That could have been an interesting direction to pursue. C’est la vie.
