Sitting in my apartment
contemplating my state of mind.

(a dangerous thing to do)

I realize that
some people will be shot today
for stupid conflicts
that could have been avoided,
I also realize that I have
to make a living
I have no urge to enjoy,
suicide is a waste
and much too messy,
and changing into a cockroach
does not seem to be an
improvement
upon my current situation.

I sigh and pick up a book,
but the book is cold and dead,
I pace my green carpet
waiting for something,
anything, to happen,
inspiration,
a dream,
a phone call.

(no, not a phone call,
I don’t feel like talking to anyone today)

I move around, restless,
staring at the pile of dishes
in the sink waiting for me
to clean off the hardened food,
I wait for a light bulb to burn out
(energy spent)
looking for replacement.

I sit waiting for the
madness that comes and goes,
like a vagabond
with no place to go.
