I was down on my luck
so I bought me a bottle
of Listermint, and got pissed
behind a seven-eleven,
I started to sing the blues
only like a white man could,
and the birds started chirping
out of tune
so I brought out my harmonica
and played me some heavy metal
only like a black man would.
I sifted through the garbage
and found some aspirin
left behind by a hypochondriac,
I stared at that bottle
for eternity, then fed it to the birds,
the birds started dancing
like they do in the country bars,
so I finished off my Listermint,
and headed down the barren streets,
I saw a woman passed out in the sewer
so I lay down beside her
and felt her up,
her body was cold
and I couldn’t get it up,
so I left her to her slumber
but took her credit cards.
I headed to a 24-hour clothing store
and bought me a suit four sizes too large
(that being the latest fashion)
and I walked around
like the King of the Bums,
and now I only drink cough syrup,
and sing white man’s jazz
as the birds sway gently
in the air, and I pick them off
with the stubble from my beard,
and now all the bums
know who’s King, that’s me,
King of the Bums!
