Press Release from DarkWinter Press

Front Cover - drawing by Harvey Dog 2024 for Graham Kent's "Worsery Rhymes", October 2024

If the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, Graham Kent gives his absolute best with this collection of irreverent poetry not intended for the faint of heart. Deftly combining cutting wit with dark sarcasm, this volume of verse joins the likes of Edward Gorey and Adam Mansbach… even if they didn’t invite him. With illustrations by the wonderfully talented John Harvey, this collection is for anyone who loves dark humour, the irreverent satire of tropes and pop culture, and a Sharknado-level of the ridiculously absurd.

Author: Graham Kent – Graham Kent is a neurodiverse creator, writer, and performer whose work has aired on CBC, Bell Media, and AMI-tv, and who has written scripts for the producers of You’re My Hero; Versailles; Baroness Von Sketch Show; Less Than Kind; and Defendor
Aside from his twisted sense of humour, which you’re all too familiar with by now (and which he promises isn’t reflected in all of his work), he enjoys travelling, playing guitar, and looking into this thing his friends keep telling him about called “outside”… Whatever that is. You can check out more of his work at truegrahamkent.com.

Illustrator: John Harvey – John Harvey is an artist, published poet and was the vocalist for Hamilton’s art-rock group, The Hated Uncles. He writes poetry and creates videos under the alias of Harvey Dog, and is plugging away on his first novel. His work can be found on his website harveydog.ca.

***** – Not for the faint of heart funny
If Graham ever wants to write children’s lit, this work assures he will have to adopt a nom-de-plume because this anthology is hail-mary-choke-on-your-morning-coffee-oy-vey level funny.
Now write more!!!

***** – Biting, acerbic, snarky . . . and very funny. All in verse!
“Okay, one more” I kept telling myself — before long I had finished this very witty collection of poems, rhymes, limericks . . . even haiku. Graham Kent does a brilliant job taking on the oddities of life, filtered through his very peculiar mind — and setting it all to verse — in a book that can be enjoyed by anyone, except maybe your kids. But then again, we all have to grow up sometime.

***** – Provocative, Off-beat, Hilarious
“Worsery Rhymes” is a feast for the madcap poetry fan in your life. It feels like a collaboration that would be on display in a hip downtown warehouse art show in the West Village, and every page brought new delights and laughs. Recommend!

**** – Unique & Quirky
This collection is fun and different; like nothing I have read before. I especially enjoyed the haiku. Some pieces challenged my “aging” brain as if I was trying to solve a puzzle. Well done, Graham Kent!

***** – Dark & Witty
Loved the illustrations, variety of themes covered & dark, but hilarious poems throughout.

***** – Wonderfully creative and different
Highly recommend

***** – Funny
Written like a friend talking to you.

The Drawings

I wanted to ensure the drawings captured the essence of Graham’s wonderful words. It was a great experience!
